WHO ANSWERS THE TELEPHONE?
Lakech EcoLodge and Ranch is owned and operated by the Guilbeault family, John, Chris and Tristan. To read why we picked the name Lakech for the EcoLodge, click Why Lakech.
John Guilbeault is virtually a self-made man. In 1995, he was diagnosed to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. John's response was, well, you have to know John to know what his response was....John read and took every course he could on holistic and alternative medicine. He learned about energy medicine, NLP, herbs, irridology, hypnosis, bio feedback, crystals, auras and without sounding like a cliche, he healed himself. He even wrote some articles about his experiences in Wellness. Today, he is the mastermind contractor responsible for the green renovations and maintenance of the Ranch, no easy task when you realize that John was born and raised a city boy. John's favorite things to do are playing shinney hockey, climbing mountains, drumming, cycling and homeschooling Tristan.
Christiane Guilbeault is an accountant, doula (for birthing articles and info, click Birthing -Conception-, medicine woman and Master Organic Gardener. She has been owner of Amaranth Whole Foods Market in Calgary (1994 - 2001); is mother to 3 sons, the last son, Tristan, born at home in a water birth; past treasurer of the Sierra Club Alberta, and coordinated the first community recyling drives in northwest Calgary (Grassroots Northwest) in the late 1980s. Chris has been doula to Maya (a llama) with her first baby, Eclipse, cleaned wounds infested with maggots and lived with frozen pipes and no heat. Chris wears many hats at Lakech from webmaster, accountant (of course), gardener, mucking out pens, and painting and loves them all. Now she is looking for a bigger hat rack!
Tristan Guilbeault, born in 2003, is a true Indigo child, learning from the forests, the gardens, travelling the world and his life experience. Tristan has travelled from 7 months of age to England, Ireland, Mexico, Guatemala, Cuba, Dominican Republic and across Canada. He was christened in 2004 in a traditional Mayan ceremony by Don Pedro Cruz of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Tristan has climbed the stairs of King John's castle in Limerick, Ireland and the 400 stairs of the Queen's Temple in Tikal, Guatemala. He can tell you which mushrooms are edible, stoke a fire and bring his donkey, Pedrito, in for the night. Tristan is learning math while helping John with the metal roofing for the Lodge, counting the screws that he has done. Tristan's favorite things to do this year are collecting coins from around the world, learning to ride his bike and collecting Bakugans.
